Well no, not me actually, but the Loft Market in Powerscourt, which is
celebrating its third birthday this month, and to the mark the occasion had a
super stylish fashion show last night in the landmark Georgian mansion.
All the
movers and shakers from the clobberatzi were there but the main event was the
gear itself which provided a great glimpse at just where Dublin’s creative
designing scene is at.
Over 20 up-and-coming designers were showcased and
though we may be used to homespun fashion being more expensive, check this lot
out for bargains.
Simple pieces like this black knee dress from Secret Style is €120
while the White Faux Fur Wrap by Beibhinn Flood is €60.
For the pocket gúna-lovers
like me, there was this Blondie Dress by Perk Up Vintage for 79 quid.

This
Leopard Print Coat from Jean Cronin Vintage is giving the highstreet versions a
run for its money for 155 smackers and the very cute 1930s Chocolate Envelope
Bag is €85.
If you are into the 80s leather look currently making a comeback,
you can pick up this leather skirt for €90 and the Ruffle Silk Blouse for €185.
And of course they also stock Chupi’s brilliantly priced gear, like this Pink
and Black Party Dress which will only set you back €25 (how does she do it?
Worth a post maybe?).
Über chic lady and all round doyenne of the Loft Market, Kate McGrath
also let me in the message of the night. “We’ve been losing our best artists
and designers for years but right now we have a fantastic opportunity to
reshape Dublin and redirect our priorities. Our creatives are staying put and
making a go of it here, they are working together in collectives and
sustainable partnerships, they are not just surviving but developing a
fantastic new scene for the city.”
Good news at last.
