The Wild Honey Inn .... in it's magical location at Lisdoonvarna in the Burren

And so another fabulous episode of At Your Service aired , with all the obligatory drama, budget over spends and to the minute deadlines.

Fun. Fun. Fun.

The hotel John and Francis Brennan were tasked to make over was the old Kincora in Lisdoonvarna which was taken over by an Irish chef who had returned from london where he had worked in 5-star establishments. And boy did we change it.

They persuaded the owners to change the name - they went for Wild Honey Inn and brought me in to change the look. Here's what it looked as the Kincora - badly in need of a haircut as John said!

And here's what it looked after - a brush of burren colour and a good grooming on the outside worked wonders

The redesign was inspired by Cape Cod

The interior look was very much inspired by the New England, Cape Cod - classic Americana styles and the end result was fab.

It was my job to amalgamate all the ideas that were in play and to make them work together.

I think all in all the finished product look gorgeous.

Pulling the natural stones and mossy greys and lichen colours associated with the Burren landscape into the interior was the whole idea.

.

Before, as you can see from the photograph, the bedrooms inside were very out-dated - all floral and frilly

.

I really enjoyed working with Francis and John this episode in particular.

Francis is hilarious in person and really a very nice guy, as is John by the way.

We were in one of the reception rooms waiting to film my big arrival scene. Myself and Francis were chatting away.

There was a butterfly flying about the place.

Francis burst into story about  himself and butterflies and how they have a connection with him. How in a field with hundreds of other people, he was the only one a butterfly flew to and landed on!

It's true.

Well I smiled ..... :) He is exactly as you see him on screen.

Interestingly I wasn't invited to the big launch night of the Wild Honey Inn .... I must get me a strongly worded letter together eh.

Or else I'll just mention it on my blog.

What you reckon?

Anyway .... during the week I will blog again on how to achieve the look.

Have a good one.

Karl

  • Oct-5 - mimiWow Karl, no invite! I thought you'd be the guest of honour!!! Must say, based on the finished look of the place and the food, I wouldn't mind a weekend there. They should offer you a weeks stay, full board as an apology for forgetting the invite for the opening night!!!
